a new mccracken addition!!!

yesterday at 10:40am, elijah thomas mccracken took his first breath and the newest addition to the mccracken clan was born. eli's measurements were 20.75 inches long and 8lbs-3oz.

jenna was induced at 6:30am and around 10:00am the decision was made to perform a c-section due to eli's heart rate decreasing with each contraction. while there was no serious stress to eli, jenna's doctor decided to be cautious before labor progressed to a point where serious stress would be an issue. the decision turned out to be correct because the kid evidentally did some barrell rolls and wrapped his cord around his neck.

jenna and eli are both doing well and should be going home wednesday afternoon. mj is excited to finally see his little brother and i look forward to having my family at home.

it's been three months since i last posted anything so here is an update on our little family...

the boy just keeps on growing and amazing us with how smart he is and the little man he continues to become. two weeks ago he decided he wasn't getting enough attention so he climbed up on the counter in his bathroom and "just fell right off" as he likes to say. the result was a fractured left ulna and a pretty cool neon green cast on his arm. it definately has not slowed the boy down, especially since it is waterproof. next week he will be going up to the Cathedral Domain with jenna to spend a week at camp...meaning lots of candy and gator rides (no janice, he won't be riding alligators...it's a john deere gator!)

jenna has been staying busy with work and growing the next addition to our clan. she is now 32 weeks along...maybe 33 weeks...i'm not really sure. it's all kinda confusing to me...i adopt the "they grow for a while and then they pop out" philosophy...much easier to comprehend! the sickness she had early on in the pregnancy thankfully went away so the last several months have been relatively vomit free...although she keeps saying something about a foot under her ribs or kicking her bladder.

the much anticipated arrival of eli is still around august 9th or whenever he decides to pop his head out and say hello! we had a 4-d ultrasound last monday so we got our first glimpse of his features. comparing the pictures from the ultrasound to a picture of mj when he was just a couple weeks old was like looking at the same kid. i don't know if the physical resemblance is an omen, but i have a feeling our home is going to be a very loud environment in the years to come!

as for me, i am staying busy with work and chores around the house. my father's day was filled with cooking for my family and coralling a hyperactive kid...pretty much just how i wanted it to be! i did take a few moments to play "tiger woods golf 11" on the wii (thank you jenna!)...it's a great game but i have one complaint...while the graphics and sounds are unbelievably realistic, i am disappointed the hookers were not included!

the boy turned three on monday...hard to believe that much time has passed since our 17 hour day at the hospital. these last years have been so unbelievably amazing and i have learned alot from my little boy.

today we learned our new baby would indeed be another boy. elijah thomas mccracken (yes, i am aware his initials will be et!) is due on august 9th. i can't wait to watch another kid grow into a little man like his big brother and to see mj playing his role like none other.

the boy had his first soccer experience saturday as he participated in the indoor soccer program here in richmond. while the colleges have yet to make their recruiting calls...i am sure there is some interest.

he did receive his first soccer injury after he was nailed in the face with the ball (see the second picture in this post). after some shed tears he was back on the field.

the last few months have brought about a lot of change in our household. not only have we moved into our new home and jenna has been settling in to her new career....which is going great, thanks for asking...but we found out just before Christmas that another mccracken spawn is growing in jenna's belly! (janice...that means jenna is pregnant again!)

so...i will try to be more diligent in posting updates with pics of our family so the three of you who check this blog can be informed.

in case you are interested...jenna's due date is august 9th and so far all seems to be great with the new kid although it has brought about a fair amount of sickness for jenna.

we hope all of you are well and we can't wait to see you...by the way, interstates do run north as well as south! take care.

some things have changes since i last posted like our move our new home in richmond, kentucky. with jenna's job in irvine...it's going well and she is loving it, thanks for asking...the move made sense being that her commute is now just over 20 minutes instead of an hour. our house is in a development with lots of kids which made halloween alot of fun for mj's first trick-or-treat candy fest.

so...you may be wondering what has been going on here in kentucky since it has been so long since any pictures or an update has been posted...since the phone has been mysteriously silent and our doorbell unused (except for the mormons and the guys trying to sell us an alarm system), i guess i better include it in this post.

jenna has officially become a physician assistant, graduating in june and passing her national boards in july. for those of you who may not have heard, she accepted a job offer with a children's clinic in irvine, kentucky. i am so very proud of what she has accomplished and can not wait to see her begin a career she has worked so hard to attain. soon we will be moving to richmond (15 miles south of lexington) and rest assured our contact info will be posted here sometime before her three year contract is up.

the boy is...all boy! as you can tell by the pictures, he his growing and knows only one speed...full throttle. his summer has been filled with days in the pool, spending a week with jenna at the cathedral domain (the episcopal church camp ran by her uncle andy and aunt cindy), and attempting to drive his parents crazy at any opportunity.

so i got a call today from an aunt who shall remain nameless expressing her disappointment in me that no pictures of the boy had been added in over a month...happy now janice?!?

i wanted to let everyone know about mj's surgery tomorrow to fix his little thumb...not that he has an unusually small thumb - called a "thumb nub" - or one thumb smaller than the other...i used the term 'little' in reference to his overall size as a human - since he is in the 97th percentile in height i guess that would mean he has an unusually large thumb...which would make people think he has this bulbous protrusion...which he doesn't.

he goes in the morning to have his trigger thumb condition corrected...a minor procedure that is supposed to last about 30 minutes. while this is a simple surgery with very little risk, our little boy is going to be cut and in some pain afterwards so i ask that you keep him in your prayers. i'm pretty sure it's going to be more traumatic on his dad than him.

the boy is now officially two years old! actually two years and one week being that his birthday was last sunday...yeah, i know a good father would have already had pictures posted.

it was a great day of bouncing and time spent with family and friends. a big thank you goes out to all who came to his party and for all the gifts. for those who did not love him enough make an appearance...the boy was so upset he couldn't sleep...or it could have been the large amounts of candy and cake he consumed!

it amazes me how much mj has changed this last year and just how fast he is growing. last night was his first night sleeping in a "big boy" bed as we attached the toddler rail to his crib, allowing him to climb in and out on his own. knowing him, jenna and i were prepared for the countless number of times we would have to put him back down before he decided to call it a night, however he crawled up and went to sleep immediately. this morning we awoke to our door being opened by a toddler who had his crocs on and was ready for the day.

thanks again to all of you for the support you have given us and our little boy over the last two years. he is absolutely the best parts of jenna and me...and we are the best parts of you.

the kid and i went to north carolina last week to see his new cousin and so i could watch my tarheels beat duke....again!

the boy is doing well...it amazes me just how fast his little mind works and how smart he is. he seems to grow everyday and is becoming such an independent little man. he loves his apple sauce and i love the after effects of his daily spanking...he's so sweet when he's saying he's sorry with big tears streaming down his face and rubbing the swelling, red welp caused by a strategically placed smack of my hand...all while i strut around the house with a sly grin on my face knowing that little kid is once again aware of who's the boss - i used to love that show except for that kid that played jonathan...i always wanted tony to land a right cross on his cheek...my brother had a huge poster of alyssa milano on his wall...the pre-charmed, not-yet-crazy-skank alyssa milano.

jenna is in the second week of her pediatric rotation and seems to be in her element...not a surprise to those who know her. it's a welcome change from her surgery clinical where she had to endure an apathetic program, a male dominated world and an iraqi med student who needs to experience the kentucky version of jihad. i continue to be proud of my wife with each milestone she passes.

back to the kid...cause everything is about the kid...he will be turning 2 in less than two weeks, a day that will be marked with a bounce party at bounce-u and then a family party at our house on march 21st. let us know if you can make it cause everyone is invited!

well...there has been much change since last i posted an update...some within the family and some not worth mentioning within these virtual walls...president-elect obama...HOLY CRAP!!! sorry if that scares you as much as it does me!

anyway...first things first (who in the world came up with that expression?!? if you covered last things first, would it not make them the first things by default?) the kid went for his 18 month checkup several weeks ago and he is officially measuring in at 36 inches tall...99th percentile in height! the doctor seems to think he needs some more calories because he is a little thin...so for those of you who may be babysitting in the future, nothing but swiss cake rolls and coke until futher notice. hey, it worked for me...throw in the occasional pudding cup and it's a weight gain guarantee!

the kid reached a milestone several weeks ago as he experienced his first broken bone. the little man fractured his right arm. i am not at liberty to discuss the details as the dss investigation has not ben officially concluded...although i don't think there was any concrete evidence. he should be coming back from his foster home within the next few weeks! (jeri says, "miiiii-kul, you shouldn't say things like that!")

jenna is in her second week of her family medicine clinical, an eight week rotation which will lead into her Christmas break. it appears she made an 'a' on her last rotation (er - that's emergency room janice).

well...the kid is 18 months old. for those of you who may be wondering, unofficially he is 28 lbs in weight and measures around 34" long. he has 14 teeth and a penis. his favorite food is fries, favorite drink is wet, loves elmo and long walks on the beach and romantic candle lit dinners.

in all seriousness, the last 18 monts have been nothing short of amazing as i have watch my little baby boy grow into the little man he is becoming. his mind absorbs everything and it makes no sense that he could be so smart. i beam with pride to call him my son and shine a little brighter when i see his mother.

jenna just finished her internal medicine rotation and will begin her ER clinical on monday. this will be a four week rotation that will include a schedule of 8pm to 8am shifts. don't freak out mom...the kid will be fine in his crib all alone until i get home...he's got sydney!

i figured since it has been almost a month since i last posted pictures, it was in my best interest to hang a few frames.

as you can see, the boy keeps growing. he now has molars and it appears his canines are just about to pop through. no mom, we are not getting a new dog...those are his sharp, pointy, vampire teeth. i can feel the wind generated from a large sigh of relief! as you can see from the bottom picture, the kid is always finding new ways to get into trouble...just like his mama. his vocabulary has already surpassed his dad's and his little brain seems to pick up a new word everyday.

jenna is in the second week of her second rotation...this time it's internal medicine. what is internal medicine? the best i can tell it consists of diabetes, high blood pressure and all the joys that come with reaching your "golden years". you'll have to ask the wife for a better explanation. in case you were wondering...jenna made an 'a' in her first rotation, as if you had any doubt!

all in all...things are going pretty well. jenna and i spend very little time together being that our schedules are so opposite. we knew this time was coming though it makes it no less it easier. she has a birthday on the 26th so could someone do me a favor and call eddie the day before and remind him...it's the golden years you know!

as promised...here are some more pictures, some from our beach trip to hilton head.

also, it's been a while since i posted an update on the goings on here in lexington (i have always hated when people said 'goings') so for those of you who have been waiting with baited breath - which is exactly what mine smells like - here it is...

jenna is nearing the end of her second week of her clinical rotations. her present rotation is in women's health which she seems to be enjoying, especially since she caught her first baby yesterday! by catching i mean she was in the delivery room while a patient was giving birth and her doctor allowed her to catch the baby as it came out. pretty cool stuff, especially compared to the other stories i hear...stories i will not share here...you can thank me later. next up will be internal medicine which will last for eight weeks instead of the usual four.

mj had his 15 month check up almost two weeks ago and, believe it or not, the pediatrician says he is highly advanced for his age! he scores in the 98th percentile in height, 88th in head size (i can hear the cheers from the sigmon clan) and 66th in weight. they say that 15 month olds should be saying at least five to six words....the kid passed that many months ago....proving he has the brain power of a conservative and his mama. my little boy is quickly turning into a little man...being around jackson byerly two weeks ago reminded me just how quickly mj as changed and the speed at which time flies. the kid never ceases to amaze me, continues to leave me in awe (sometimes that's not a good thing), and always finds a way to melt my heart.

as for michael...i began working my summer gig at atomic cafe as i did last summer, while continuing to work at saul good. while one is paying the bills, the other provides me with an outstanding atmosphere and a lot of fun. i continue to stay with the kid throughout the day while jenna is at clinicals...and then i go to work. i miss my wife...we knew this year would not afford much time for us to see each other but it's still hard. i fill the void with vodka and lots of pizza - just kidding about the pizza! don't freak out mom...just kidding about the vodka...it's bourbon actually!

all in all, the three of us are doing well. we set out on this journey armed with the knowledge that God has the plan for our lives worked out and when the time comes He will clue us in...and He has yet to let us down.

it's been a while since i gave an update on how life is going here in lexington so for those of you who have actually made it past the pictures of the kid and are still paying attention, here it is!

jenna has two more days of classroom work and she will have completed her bookwork. she will start her clinical rotations the second week in july. everyone should be extremely proud of her and what she has accomplished so far. not only did she move to a new environment to start an extremely tough program, but she did it while having and raising a baby and a husband. she is the rock of our family and i could wish for no better mother for my child. i am proud to call her my wife and my friend.

as for me...well...i'm working!

now for the boy...each day seems to bring new words and more ways to get into trouble. he is growing in mind and body and he never ceases to amze me with how smart he is and is becoming.

so i'm sitting here at 1:00 am attempting to produce some witty verbage to include in this post when i suddenly remember that you really don't care what i write just as long as i include pictures of the kid.

mj had a big day friday which started with his 6 month check-up. according to the doctor he weighs 20lbs-7oz, is 28.75" tall, is well above average in all growth measurements and is developing extremely well for his age. then she stuck him with some needles and made him cry.

following the check-up i decided to let him experience the thrills of being in a car accident, his resilience showing he would make an excellent crash test dummy...he would look so cute with those stickers on his head! don't worry...mj suffered no ill effects, although he sleeps alot now!

the kid turned five months old yesterday...as of two nights ago he weighs in at 19 lbs. each day seems to bring a new expression or sound and lots of drool. it appears that our little boy has sprouted his first tooth...too early to tell whose dental records he has inherited.

jenna started her fall semester yesterday and she has a birthday coming up on the 26th...yes eddie, that is sunday!

the boy had his four month doctor's appointment this morning where we were told that we were raising a superlative little boy. mj officially weighs in at 17lbs-10oz with a length of 27.5 in (both in the 95th percentile for his age)

we will be heading to hickory on august 12th to have mj dedicated at tri-city baptist church. shortly thereafter the xterra will be plotting a course for hilton head so jenna can get some much needed rest before the commencement of the fall semester.

two days until july 4th and we are getting ready for a trip to hickory for the annual independence day celebration at the mccracken hacienda. mj will have his first taste of baby rack ribs and experience fireworks...mccracken style.

mj had is two month check up last friday where we learned that he is in fact getting enough to eat! he now weighs over 13.5 pounds and is just over 24" long. his head circumference is 40.5 cm...proving he has some sigmon blood.

today is mj's 2 month birthday and you can see by the first picture, he celebrated by voting in his first election. after exercising his civic duty he exercised with mommy in his jungle play gym which was promptly followed by another kind of "duty".
